Bookly Plugin Customization

Overview

The Bookly booking plugin imposes structural and aesthetic constraints that may conflict with custom design mockups. When a design is created independently of Bookly's native UI, the implementation team must assess which elements can be matched using available plugin customizations — and accept that some design intentions may not be achievable without workarounds or a redesign.

This tension surfaced during the [1] project, where a mobile booking flow designed in Figma could not be fully replicated within Bookly's customization limits.

Key Constraints

  1. Assess before designing. When Bookly is the confirmed implementation tool, designers should review Bookly's native UI and customization options before producing high-fidelity mockups. This prevents promising clients an experience the plugin cannot deliver.
  2. Implementation-first resolution. When a gap is discovered post-design, have the developer (not the designer) work within the plugin to get as close as possible to the design intent. Asking the designer to revise the mockup to match plugin limitations is a valid fallback, but only after implementation options are exhausted.
  3. Scope the delta clearly. Document which design elements were achievable and which were not, so the client can be informed of any deviations from the approved design.
