La Marie Beauty — Navigation Menu Structure

Overview

During the October 2025 working session, the La Marie Beauty team identified that the current website navigation menu feels redundant and confusing to users. Refinement of the menu structure is a near-term goal, though it was deprioritized relative to the ^[1] service page layout work.

Current Problem

The existing navigation exposes sub-categories (e.g., "Bio-stimulators," "Dermal Fillers") at the same level as their parent categories (e.g., "Injectables"), creating a sense of redundancy. At the same time, other top-level categories like "Skincare" do not surface their children in the same way — meaning the structure is inconsistent.

Additionally, some service pages have not yet been created (due to missing photos or content), so those services do not appear in the navigation or "All Services" listing at all. Roxana has been directing clients to book directly via Square links as a workaround.

Desired State

• Simplified top-level categories: Proposed groupings include Lifestyle, Skincare, Injectables, and Wellness (approximately four to five top-level items).
• Hover-activated submenus: Hovering over a top-level category would reveal its children (e.g., hovering "Injectables" reveals Bio-stimulators, Dermal Fillers, etc.) rather than displaying all levels simultaneously.
• Consistent structure across categories: All service groupings should follow the same pattern.
• Complete coverage: Once missing service pages are built out (tied to the ^[2] work), they should be incorporated into the navigation automatically via category assignment.

Relationship to Service Page Work

The navigation refinement is downstream of the service page build-out. As Ishak creates new service pages using the Glossier-inspired layout (prototyped first on Classic Microneedling), those pages will need to be assigned to the correct categories so they surface correctly in the menu. The category/taxonomy structure should be settled before navigation changes are finalized.

A sitemap / site tree document exists in Canva (shared by Roxana) that maps the intended hierarchy. Melissa noted she had previously filed it under "sitemap" in the project folder.

Action Items

• Roxana Lopez — Confirm final top-level category names (Lifestyle, Skincare, Injectables, Wellness, etc.) and re-share the Canva sitemap with Melissa.
• Asymmetric team — Review navigation structure and propose implementation approach for hover-activated submenus once service page prototype is approved.
• Ishak — Ensure new service pages are assigned to correct categories as they are built, so navigation population is automatic.
