VCEDC Leadership Page Refinement

Decisions and design rationale for restructuring the VCEDC Leadership page ahead of the December 2025 site launch.

Overview

The Leadership page required refinement to better reflect the organization's current structure and personnel. The primary goals were to clarify the distinction between staff leadership and board governance, update the page headline, and manage photos for outgoing and non-pictured members.

Key Decisions

URL and Menu Label Preserved

The menu item and page URL will remain "Leadership" unchanged. Renaming it would break existing inbound links and any bookmarked URLs. Stability of the URL was prioritized over any cosmetic rename.

Headline Updated

The page headline will change to:

"Meet the business experts leading the VCEDC."

This framing emphasizes expertise and community relevance rather than a generic organizational title.

Executive Director Separated from Board

The page structure will be reorganized to place the Executive Director in a distinct section above the Board of Directors. Previously, all leadership was presented in a single undifferentiated list, which obscured the difference between staff and volunteer governance roles.

Photo Management

Jim's photo was already present on a donate page build and needed to be removed from that context as well, not just the leadership page.

Implementation Notes

• Melissa (Asymmetric) is responsible for building out the leadership page with final copy and structure before the board review draft is sent.
• The draft site link goes to the board before the December 10 board meeting to collect early feedback and surface any bugs.
• Roger Wolfe's "not pictured" designation is a graceful fallback — no placeholder image needed, just a text-only listing.
