# LaMaurie SEO Metadata & Checkout Issues (2026-01-22)

Discussed during [[wiki/meetings/2026-01-22-mid-week-call-melissa|Mid-Week Call w/ Melissa (2026-01-22)]]. Two distinct technical issues surfaced: missing SEO metadata across the entire site (a missed deliverable from the original build), and client requests for checkout customization that are incompatible with their chosen Square platform.

## SEO Metadata Gap

### Problem

All 15 pages on the LaMaurie site have blank title tags, blank meta descriptions, and no target keywords set. Product and category pages are equally bare — categories have no descriptions, products have no tags. This was a missed deliverable from the original site build; no ClickUp task was ever created to assign the work.

### Current Rankings (Context)

Despite the metadata gap, the site is performing reasonably well organically:

- **9 keywords** in the top 3 of Google
- **24 keywords** in the top 10 of Google
- Notable positions: Lip Flip Madison (#1), Lip Filler Madison (#3), Med Spa Madison, Botox, Facials Near Me

The client provided a keyword list at the time of the build (skincare, skin consult, etc.) that was never applied. That list is better suited for blog content than for on-page metadata.

### Resolution Plan

Mark will use an API script to read existing page content and auto-generate appropriate meta titles and descriptions for all pages, products, and categories. Keyword stuffing is explicitly off the table — descriptions will reflect actual page content. After implementation, Google Search Console reindexing will be requested.

The client's keyword list should be forwarded to Gavin for use in future blog content.

**Owner:** Mark Hope
**Action:** Generate and apply meta titles/descriptions for all LaMaurie pages, products, and categories; request reindexing in GSC.

## Square Checkout Customization

### Problem

The client (via Kim) is requesting a custom checkout flow that Square does not support. Square's checkout interface is largely fixed — there is no meaningful editing capability for the UI.

### Options Presented

| Option | Notes |
|---|---|
| Accept Square's default interface | Simplest path; no risk of breakage |
| Switch away from Square entirely | Opens up full customization possibilities |
| PHP workaround to modify Square | Fragile; future PHP or Square updates will break it; not recommended |

Mark's position: the client cannot be "half in and half out." If they want to stay on Square, they accept the interface as-is. If they want a custom checkout, they need to migrate off Square.

**Action:** Melissa to schedule a follow-up call with Kim to present the SEO fix progress and lay out the checkout options clearly.

## Kim — New Technical Contact

Katie (primary contact) is on maternity leave. Kim has stepped in as a contractor to manage the account. She describes herself as a "firefighter" — she identifies problems and escalates them.

**Background:** Kim is technically oriented (IT/engineering background, based in Madison after relocating from San Francisco). She identified the SEO metadata gaps correctly. However, her instinct may be to push for custom technical solutions (e.g., PHP hacks) that would create long-term fragility.

**Risk:** Kim is unlikely to be an advocate for the agency. Her technical background makes her a skeptical and potentially demanding contact. The relationship warrants careful management.
