# Meta Multi-Advertiser Placements

## Overview

Meta offers an opt-in placement setting called **Multi-Advertiser** that allows your ad to appear alongside other advertisers' ads within the same ad unit. While this can increase ad delivery volume, it introduces quality and control tradeoffs that generally make it worth disabling for most campaigns.

## What It Does

When Multi-Advertiser placements are enabled, Meta may:

- Display your ad **alongside other ads in the same unit**, rather than as a standalone placement
- **Resize or crop your ad creative** to fit the shared unit format
- Place your ad in contexts that may not be relevant to your brand or offer

The setting is found at the **ad set level** within Meta Ads Manager.

## Why to Disable It

The core problem is loss of creative control and contextual relevance:

- **Ad cropping** can cut off key visual elements or copy, degrading the user experience and brand impression
- **Adjacent ads** may be unrelated or even competitive, diluting attention and intent
- The placements Meta selects may generate clicks at lower cost but from lower-intent audiences — inflating delivery metrics without improving outcomes

> "They might be cropping our ad in half. They might be putting it next to an ad that doesn't necessarily make sense."
> — Sebastian Gant, Adava Care Marketing Call, October 2025

## How to Disable

1. Navigate to the **Ad Set** level in Meta Ads Manager
2. Locate the **Multi-Advertiser** checkbox (typically found near placement settings)
3. **Uncheck** the box to opt out
4. Repeat for each active ad set

This should be part of any standard campaign QA checklist when launching or auditing Meta campaigns.

## Relationship to Advantage+ Placements

Multi-Advertiser placements are distinct from but conceptually related to **Advantage+ Placements** (formerly Automatic Placements). Both represent Meta's mechanisms for expanding where your ads appear beyond your explicit selections — trading placement quality for delivery scale. See [[knowledge/paid-social/meta-advantage-plus-placements]] for guidance on that setting.

## Default Behavior

Meta enables this setting **by default** in some campaign configurations. It should be explicitly checked and disabled during campaign setup and when auditing existing campaigns, as it may have been silently enabled on inherited or duplicated ad sets.

## Client Examples

- **Adava Care (October 2025):** Multi-Advertiser was found enabled on newly launched employment ads. Sebastian Gant flagged it during an account review and committed to disabling it same-day alongside correcting broken destination URLs. See [[clients/adava-care/_index]] and the source meeting note for full context.
