# ClickUp Task Naming Convention

## Overview

To improve clarity when scanning the ClickUp inbox and managing recurring tasks, the team has adopted a standard naming format for all tasks: **Action Word + Client Name + Task Description**.

## The Convention

**Format:** `[Action Word] [Client Name] [Task Description]`

**Examples:**
- `Optimize Scallon Google Ads`
- `Design Asymmetric LinkedIn Ad Graphics`
- `Build Reynolds Landing Page`

### Action Word Reference

Use a verb that describes the type of work being done:

| Action Word | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|
| Optimize | Ongoing ad or SEO performance work |
| Design / Create | Visual or creative deliverables |
| Build | Websites, landing pages, development tasks |
| Draft | Copy, blogs, social content, scripts |
| Schedule | Publishing or calendar tasks |
| Review | Audits, approvals, feedback |
| Provide | Deliveries to clients or internal handoffs |

## Rationale

Generic task titles like `"Optimize Google Ads"` are ambiguous when they appear in the ClickUp inbox — a team member may have 10+ tasks with identical names across different clients. Including the client name in the task title allows anyone scanning the inbox or sprint board to immediately identify context without clicking into the task.

This is especially important for **recurring tasks**, where the same action is performed weekly or monthly for multiple clients.

> "If you have 20 Google Ads optimizations... being able to quickly zoom down here and, like, if I'm in my inbox, being able to like, all right, you know, what it would be easier, right?" — Melissa Cusumano, 2026-03-26 stand-up

## Implementation

- **Gilbert** is applying this format as he recreates recurring tasks that were lost or deleted from ClickUp.
- All team members should use this format when creating new tasks going forward.
- Existing tasks can be renamed opportunistically; a full retroactive rename is not required.

## Related Context

This convention was discussed during the [[meetings/2026-03-26-team-stand-up|2026-03-26 Team Stand-Up]] alongside a broader ClickUp cleanup effort. Gilbert was also removing duplicate and outdated recurring tasks at the same time.

The format was originally proposed by a former team member (Egan) and has been re-adopted as the team standard.
