American Extractions is a hemp-derived extract manufacturer that had been moving toward a wellness-focused positioning (pre/post-workout, energy, rehydration) prior to the engagement pause. Their product lines include THC-based products, pet products, stick packs, and extraction capabilities applicable to mushroom-based ingredients.
The engagement was paused in response to regulatory changes banning hemp-derived THC products. American Extractions is conducting an internal strategic review expected to last a few weeks, after which they intend to re-engage Asymmetric.
Asymmetric proposed three directions for American Extractions to pursue during or after the pause:
The hemp-derived THC ban is expected by Mark Schweiger to remain in effect, driven by lobbying from alcohol, pharmaceutical, and marijuana industries. He speculates federal legalization could emerge as a political play ahead of midterm elections, but the timeline is uncertain. THC products can still be sold for one year from the ban date.
