Overview
During the December 3 ops sync, Mark and Gilbert reviewed Citrus America's SEO performance and identified a clear structural problem: the site is generating strong impression volume but converting almost none of it to clicks. The root cause and a two-phase remediation strategy were defined.

The Problem: High Impressions, Low CTR
Citrus America's pages are appearing in Google Search results but receiving very few clicks. The cause is positional, not topical:
- Target keywords are ranking on page 1, but at positions 10–12
- Google counts a result as an impression any time the SERP is served, regardless of whether the user scrolls to it
- At positions 10–12, users must scroll to the very bottom of the results page — most do not
- Result: Google reports impressions; the client sees almost no traffic
"Google's reporting the fact that they were on the page that was presented as an impression. And then because nobody scrolls down to number 10, they don't get any clicks." — Mark Hope
The fix requires two parallel workstreams. Solving ranking without fixing landing pages wastes the traffic gain; fixing landing pages without improving ranking produces nothing to convert.
Phase 1 — Improve SERP Position (CTR Fix)
Move existing keywords from positions 10–12 up into the top 5, where click-through rates increase substantially. Tactics:
- Blogging — publish targeted content around the ranking keywords to build topical authority
- Internal linking — strengthen link equity flowing to the target pages
- Meta description updates — improve click appeal for queries where ranking improves
- Additional on-page optimization as needed
Target: positions 3–5 for the keywords currently sitting at 10–12.
Phase 2 — Improve Landing Page Conversion
Once ranking improves, increased traffic will expose conversion weaknesses in the current landing pages. Work on these in parallel so they are ready when traffic arrives:
- Audit existing product and category pages for conversion clarity
- Ensure pages have clear CTAs, relevant messaging, and no dead ends
- Coordinate with the ZoomX competitor landing page campaign (pending Gilbert/Brian approval) — [3]
"Then our problem's going to be somebody's going to be clicking... and then we're going to have problems with conversions because where they're landing is not great." — Mark Hope
Keyword Research Delivery Gap
A contact at Citrus (Mike) complained that keyword research had not been delivered. Investigation revealed:
- Gilbert had completed the research and sent it to Wade (the primary client contact)
- Gilbert had not sent it to Mike, nor confirmed whether Melissa (the AM) had received a copy
Policy established: All client-facing deliverables must be routed through the Account Manager before or simultaneously with client delivery. The AM needs visibility to catch gaps like this (e.g., Wade receiving something Mike needed).
WordPress Activity Log Request
Miriam (client-side) requested a review of former rep Bill Dickey's activity via the WP Activity Log plugin. This was not actionable:
- The WP Activity Log tracks technical site changes (page edits, logins), not business activity (calls, sales actions)
- Bill Dickey's WordPress user account had already been deleted before the request was made — no logs are retrievable for a removed user
- The plugin had also been disabled on most sites due to performance issues (large log files causing 500 errors, per WP Engine recommendation)
Melissa to email Miriam explaining these limitations. No further action possible.
