Website Redesign — Image Selection Working Session
Date: 2025-09-26
Attendees: Kathy Schmitz (VCEDC), Melissa Cusumano (Asymmetric), Isalia Ramirez (Asymmetric)
Client: [1]
Project: [2]
Overview
Working session called to help Kathy Schmitz navigate the Miro board for image selection on the VCEDC website redesign. Kathy had watched the orientation video but was confused by multiple layout versions on the board and struggled to browse photos in the Google Drive library. Melissa walked her through logging in, using the comment tool, tagging team members, and copying image links from Drive into Miro comments. The board was also simplified mid-session to reduce confusion.
Key Decisions
- Homepage messaging confirmed: "Our business expertise, your success" — retained as-is; team moved away from the earlier "great outdoors" framing.
- "About Us" removed from homepage header — had been present in the mockup without anyone flagging it; agreed to delete.
- Hero image approach: A business-owner photo is required for the homepage hero. A photo of Courtney (Business of the Month award, 2024) was discussed but flagged as potentially confusing since that program ended. The Eagle River Animal Hospital Business of the Year photo was identified as a strong alternative — cropped tighter to remove background clutter.
- Vanessa laptop-by-lake photo — identified as a candidate for one of the interior page sections.
- Roger Wolf photo — current photo is not usable; Kathy will ask him to retake it.
- Miro workflow confirmed: Kathy will use the comment bubble tool to tag images page-by-page, pasting Google Drive links into comments and tagging @Melissa (and optionally @Lucas, the designer).
- Board simplified: Melissa removed older layout rounds from Kathy's view so she can focus on one current version per page.

Miro Workflow (As Trained)
- Open Miro via the shared link — the current version of each page is highlighted with a red box.
- Select the comment bubble tool from the left toolbar.
- Click on the image placeholder you want to address.
- Type your note; paste the Google Drive link to the preferred photo.
- Tag @Melissa (and optionally @Lucas) to notify the team.
- Click the blue send arrow to submit.
- Re-select the comment bubble tool before adding each new comment.
Note: Kathy was added as a guest to the Miro board during this session after the original invitation had expired. She now has full comment access.
Context Notes
- Kathy is working from home with a sprained ankle; surgery to remove a wrist plate is scheduled for November 13th — she expects to be on PTO that week.
- The Vilas County community is small and tight-knit; Kathy emphasized that locals will recognize (or question) any photos used. Authentic, locally recognizable images are a priority over stock or generic scenery.
- Kathy's preference: a blend of scenery and business photos, avoiding duplication across pages (minor overlap between related pages like broadband and remote work is acceptable).
- Designer Lucas is on the project and can be tagged in Miro comments for direct feedback.
