VCEDC Leadership Bios Strategy

Overview

During the November 2025 website content finalization session, the team resolved a persistent issue with the VCEDC leadership bios: AI-generated drafts (pulled from SiteCast) had been used as placeholder content, but these were not accurate representations of the board members. The decision was made to replace all AI-generated bios with the edited versions currently live on the VCEDC website.

This decision applies to all board member profile pages built out in the new site.

The Problem

When building the new VCEDC site, bios were initially sourced from SiteCast (an AI content generation tool). These drafts included:

• Inaccurate or fabricated professional details
• An unwanted "Key Takeaways" section appended to each bio
• Content that did not reflect the edited, approved versions the client had previously worked on with a collaborator named Jamie

The live VCEDC website already contained the correct, human-edited versions of these bios — making the AI drafts redundant and misleading.

Decision

Use the current live VCEDC website as the authoritative source for all board member bios. Do not use the SiteCast-generated content.

- The "Key Takeaways" section present in the SiteCast drafts should be removed entirely
- Individual board member pages have already been built in the new site; they simply need the correct bio content populated

Steps:
1. Visit the current live VCEDC website under the Leadership section
2. Copy each board member's bio text into the shared content document, organized by person
3. Ping Kathy Schmitz when the document is updated for her review
4. Notify developer Aki to pull from the updated document when populating individual profile pages

Related Decisions

• "Learn More" links on board member cards should be hidden until bio content is confirmed ready — avoids linking to incomplete profile pages
• Board Chair title update: Jim Tuckwell is currently listed as Board Chair; Kate Farrell has been elected as his successor. Kathy will confirm with Jim the appropriate timing to update this on the site. The announcement is planned for December 10th. See ^[1] for contact context.
• Roger Wolfe title correction: His title should be updated to "President, Wolff Real Estate" — not the previously listed "Commercial Banker, People's Bank"

Broader Pattern

This situation reflects a common risk when using AI-generated content as a starting point for client websites: the AI output can diverge significantly from the client's approved, in-use content. When a client already has a live site with vetted copy, that source should be treated as authoritative rather than regenerating from AI.

Best practice: Before using AI-drafted bios or team profiles, confirm whether the client has existing approved content on a live property. If so, migrate from the live source directly.
