For the December NARI member vendor fair, AHS developed an interactive booth game concept designed to engage attendees and demonstrate a core educational point: asbestos is not always visually identifiable. The game uses physical vinyl floor samples rather than images or diagrams, making it tactile and memorable.
The concept was discussed and approved during the [1].
"Can You Spot the Danger?"
Attendees are presented with three physical vinyl flooring samples in clear plastic sleeves and asked to identify which one contains asbestos. The correct answer is counterintuitive by design:
The key insight the game communicates: most people assume the classic 9-inch floor tile is the obvious asbestos culprit, but vinyl flooring — which looks contemporary and harmless — frequently has asbestos in its backing material. Attendees are meant to be surprised by the answer.
Samples are enclosed in plastic sleeves so attendees can handle them safely without exposure risk.
The game works for this audience (NARI remodeling industry members) because:
As Gina noted in the meeting: "Everybody goes, oh yeah, the nine-inch floor sample, yeah, that has asbestos. But vinyl, they don't think about."
Sebastian suggested exploring a way to capture contact information through the game interaction. Gina confirmed this particular event is a closed member event (NARI Madison chapter), so attendee contacts are already known — the game's purpose here is purely engagement and education rather than list-building.
For future public trade shows (e.g., [2]), a lead capture mechanism tied to a game or giveaway could be worth revisiting.
