Reddit advertising is a relatively underdeveloped channel that offers low-cost, high-intent targeting by placing ads directly within communities where prospective buyers are already discussing relevant topics. For clients selling investment-oriented products or services — such as self-storage facilities — subreddits focused on passive income, investing, and entrepreneurship represent a strong top-of-funnel opportunity.
Reddit only recently opened its platform to this type of subreddit-level ad targeting, making it an early-mover opportunity before costs rise.

Reddit communities around wealth-building attract a mix of lurkers and active investors who are actively researching ways to deploy capital. Unlike broad display advertising, subreddit targeting reaches people in the context of a conversation they're already having — dramatically increasing relevance.
Key insight from the Trachte discussion:
"You're fishing where the fish are. People that are looking for that kind of opportunity are hanging out there. And they're pretty cheap."
Start with communities where the audience is actively seeking investment and income opportunities:
r/passiveincome — high intent; users discussing specific vehicles for generating incomer/investing — broader but large audience with capital to deployr/financialindependence — FIRE-adjacent; long-horizon investorsr/realestateinvesting — relevant for physical asset investments like self-storageResearch the specific subreddit before targeting: check member count, post frequency, and whether the community skews toward discussion vs. action.
Frame the product as an investment opportunity, not a product purchase. For self-storage:
Reddit ads are particularly well-suited to driving event registrations because:
Recommended CTA: Drive traffic to seminar registration pages or webinar sign-ups rather than product pages. Use the event as the lead-capture mechanism.
Reddit supports image and video ads that appear inline within subreddit feeds. Keep creative simple and native-feeling — overly polished ads can feel out of place on Reddit.
Reddit CPCs are significantly lower than Google or LinkedIn for comparable B2B/investor audiences. Compile baseline numbers before launch and set a modest test budget to establish benchmarks.
Track:
- Click-through rate by subreddit
- Seminar/webinar registration rate from Reddit traffic (UTM-tag all links)
- Cost per registration vs. other channels
During the November 2025 in-person strategy session, the Asymmetric team proposed Reddit ads as a new PPC channel for Trachte's self-storage building business. The rationale: Trachte's target buyer (an individual or small group looking to build a self-storage facility as an investment) is actively present in passive income and investing communities.
Proposed next steps at time of meeting:
- Sebastian Gant to compile Reddit PPC numbers and propose specific subreddits and budget
- Primary conversion goal: drive registrations for Trachte's 2026 seminar and webinar schedule (10 seminars, 5 webinars)
