A recurring point of confusion when setting up Microsoft Clarity on client sites is the pending project admin approval step that appears on the Shopify or Webflow side after installing the plugin. This article documents the correct workflow and where the approval actually lives.
When a developer installs the Clarity plugin on a Shopify or Webflow site, they may see a message like:
"Project link request is sent to Clarity Project ID [xxx] — pending project admin's approval."
This approval request is sent via email to whichever account owns the Clarity project — in Asymmetric's case, the shared team@ account. It does not surface as a notification inside the Clarity UI itself, which is why it's easy to miss.
Fix: Log into the team@ email account, find the approval email, and click the approval link. Once approved, the Clarity plugin will show as successfully installed.
team@ account.team@ inbox.team@ account.team@. Clarity will confirm installation.Once the project is live, clients can be invited to view their own Clarity data without needing access to the team@ account:
Example: For PaperTube,
parag@papertube.cowas invited as a team member so Parag could access session recordings and heatmaps directly.
The Clarity UI does not show a pending approval notification anywhere inside the dashboard. There is no "approvals" queue to check. The only place the approval request appears is in the email inbox of the project-owning account (team@). Always check there first if an integration appears stuck.
