Skaalen 'What to Bring' Pages
Overview
Skaalen identified a gap in pre-move guidance: residents and families often don't know what to pack when transitioning into a facility. The solution is a set of facility-specific "What to Bring" pages on the Skaalen website — one per location — with printable formatting so families can use them as a checklist during the move-in process.
This initiative came out of a department head meeting at Skaalen and was discussed in the [1] February 2026 monthly marketing call.
Rationale
Move-in needs vary significantly by facility and care level. A single generic packing list would be misleading or incomplete. Key differences include:
- Skaalen Heights — apartments are unfurnished; residents bring their own furniture and belongings
- Magnolia Gardens — TVs are provided in rooms
- Skaalen Nursing & Rehab — residents need comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and good shoes for therapy participation; TVs are in-room so personal sets aren't needed
Because of this variation, content must be authored per facility rather than shared across locations.
Proposed Structure
- A "Resources" tab on the website with links to each facility's "What to Bring" page
- Each page is printable, so families can use it as a physical checklist when visiting a parent's home to help them pack
- Pages may also live on individual facility pages as a secondary entry point
Content Ownership
Dawn Zaemisch (Skaalen) will gather packing lists from each facility director. Simone may already share an informal version of this for nursing/rehab admissions (possibly via hospital discharge coordinators), but it is not currently a standardized, publicly available document.
Status
- Requested: February 2026
- Blocker: Content must come from facility directors before pages can be built
- Next step: Dawn to collect "What to Bring" lists from each director and provide to Asymmetric
