An interactive website tool to guide prospective residents and their families toward the most appropriate Skaalen facility and care level based on their specific needs. Reduces friction from uninformed phone calls and helps self-qualify leads before they reach staff.
Skaalen staff regularly receive calls from people who don't know which type of care they need — skilled nursing vs. assisted living vs. supportive care vs. independent living. The wizard addresses this by walking users through a short question sequence and surfacing the right facility match, then prompting them to schedule a tour.
"People are calling, they don't really know, do they need skilled care? Do they need assisted? What's the difference between assisted and supportive?"
— Dawn Zaemisch, February 2026 marketing call
Questions should be designed to progressively narrow the facility list. Example filter:
| Question | Exclusion Logic |
|---|---|
| Does the person require a mechanical lift for transfers? | Yes → excludes Heritage Center, Magnolia Gardens, Skaalen Heights |
| Is the person currently independent in daily activities? | Directs toward Independent Living / Condos |
| Is the person coming from a hospital or post-acute setting? | Directs toward Skilled Nursing / Therapy & Rehab |
The full question set is to be drafted by Melissa Cusumano and reviewed by Dawn Zaemisch. Dawn's team (Maggie and Simone) were also researching how other senior living sites handle this.
The existing "Continuum of Care" blog post (Your Guide to Senior Living: A Transformative Journey) should be expanded to provide deeper context on each care level. This post can be cross-linked from the wizard's results screen to give users more information before they commit to scheduling a tour.
A new dedicated blog post — "How Do I Know Which Level of Care I Need?" — was also discussed as a companion piece.
